Barfi!

BARFI!

Barfi!
Have u ever been subjected to comments like 'aabbbbe pagal hai wo' or 'you are really mad'? If nobody else then a film by the name Barfi! will stand by you and make you feel great about urself...trust me it did for me...
It is a film which shows the 'disabled' protagonist Barfi in the way never done before. He by no means is an underdog who wants to grab any sort of sympathy filled bone. He is a fiercely independent miscreant who does things on his own n owns up the consequences on his own...a character who is never deterred by his disability n mks it up with quicksilver thinking n platinum pure emotions....a guy very clear in his mind about madness....
Then there is Shruti (Dcruz). Shruti's sanity puts it's foot down n rejects Barfi....but the way Barfi handles this rejection is superb....It has to be one of the best scenes, pulled out beautifully on zero words and an array of expressions u'll not forgt for quite some time....
...n thn there's Jhilmil....the better half of a beautiful love story better seen than heard at all. Jhilmil is a character who likes very few people...which make those people very pure...Barfi being one of them...
Love is the epicentre of the film...an emotion deceptively simple to explain...it when comes with '*' I.e 'conditions apply' it also comes with an expiry date...and when it comes with almost a dog like, unconditional terms, it remins with u even in eternity...something which Barfi-Jhilmil experience right into the other world and something which the character of Shruti longed for and eventually longs till eternity...a feeling as simple n equally complex....
Though It will also make the genres fight for it's inclusion in any one of them...the film has love, drama, masala, action, comedy, thrills...everything that comprises life....
There are films which reflect the arrogance of actors (ek tha tiger)and then there are films like Barfi which doesn't back down on putting the actor on pedestal to recreat a commoners difficult life....n this is where drums should start rolling for Ranbir Kapoor...He has not only surpassed his contemperories by miles but put a question mark on the credibility of the experienced. The maturity which made Ranbir took up the film n the Forrest like Gump'tion' with which he carried it out should mk the idiotic oldies take a leaf or two from his book if not the complete book....
I never saw Priyanka Chopra...I always saw Jhilmil with a lil hint of a certain Khan with epiglottis...
A once in a life time role that PC made the most of...and put a keyless lock right on the lips of her detractors, me included.
Elina Dcruz couldn't have asked for a better Hindi film debut...

Side effects of this film:

This is one of those rare films which will linger in ur mind for quite sometime....when I got back home n saw the songs n promo of Barfi my heart glided to the scenes before n after that....leaving behind a harmless smile for residue....

It is a film that will make u cry with joy n sadness at the same time...a heady, yet beautiful mix of emotions that will churn urself out of you...that You that you have been missing for qt sometime...

For the cribbers who have to crib to survive, please find a theatre with EK THA TIGER, bad popcorn, torn, bedbug infested seats n all damn reasons to crib about as this film BARFI! won't give u any....

The DVD whenever releases would be worth a buy as the film is a happy memory

I will gv it a 4.5 off 5....a half mark taken away for very poor, almost wrong brand positioning for the 70s era...
